The Yellowstone Cutthroat
Native to Yellowstone National Park and surrounding areas, this fish can be found in Idaho, Montana, Utah, Wyoming, and Nevada. We love catching these fish because of how willing they are to eat dry flies. Watching them come up from the depths to slowly slurp up a dry fly is something everybody should get to experience
Habitat - Some populations of this fish, especially within the park, remain in good shape. While others have declined. One of the biggest threats to the Yellowstone Cutthroat is the introduction of non native sport fish like rainbow trout, brook trout, and brown trout. Rainbow Trout x Yellowstone Cutthroat hybrid are fairly prominent in certain systems and are a sterile fish. Both species spawn at the same time so when a rainbow trout splooges on a Cutthroat redd, hybrids will hatch instead of pure Yellowstone Cutthroat.
Conservation - We donate 4.20% of every purchase directly to organizations helping to preserve this species.
